Off the Beaten Path...Rome to Positano

After our 18 hours in Rome it was time to head to Positano. We made our way back to the hotel to get our luggage from lock up and then Stefano loaded us into his Mercedes van...a comfortable way for 7 to travel.  We didn't realize how long it would take, but by recommendation of Paolo the guide service we use, he took us to this out of the way place to eat lunch.

Somewhere between Rome and Naples we headed off the highway into the mountains up a dirt road.  We thought we were lost but no no no.  We arrived at some little local restaurant that use to be a mill.
No English spoken here.  The owner proceeded to pull out his Iphone with TRANSLATOR...to help us. Little did he know that Linda speaks Italian.

Well we managed to order, not really knowing exactly what we ordered but here is a sampling of a couple courses...

Gnocchi....yes stuffed with ricotta with a tomato sauce with ricotta and chili peppers....YUM
I don't remember what this was but it was delicious!!!  I unfortunately didn't get photos of the braised buffalo or the braised sliced beef.  They also brought out a roasted pork knuckle.

For dessert we had a selection of Dolce..sweets with LEMON-CELLO whipped into frozen goats milk..OMG... I never drink lemon-cello but this was to die for.
They also brought out Jay's favorite..Amaro.

During our dinner Paolo...the guide we always hire when in Rome (who actually wasn't available this trip) drove out to the restaurant on his bike to surprise us.  He toured us around the place..
The creek runs down both sides of the restaurant and under it for the mill to work.  This place was hundreds of years old.

Our group outside with Paolo!!!
Now we were on our way to Positano..... Some photos of the Bay of Naples...
Sorrento Peninsula.

Next up....our villa in Positano.
